Design & Style Update

The Garmin Fenix 7 has been engineered with several improvements in terms of design compared to previous models. The watch has preserved its robust design and reliable performance. Still, specific improvements have made the watch even tougher and more practical. I. e. the watch has been designed with a button protector around the start/stop button, which is the most protective button on the watch.

The Fenix 7 sports watch comes with a touch screen display, making it easier to use and navigate the topographical map. Even more, solar panels have been added and placed behind the watch’s display. An improvement in design that isn’t visible to the naked eye will make a big difference to usability. Fenix 7 and Fenix 7X models also come in a thinner version compared to the 6 and 6X. The 7 is 0.5 mm thinner than the 6, and the 7X is 2,1 mm thinner than the 6X

Improved Battery Life On The Garmin Fenix 7

One of the coolest new features I like in the Fenix 7 is longer lasting battery life. The less often I need to take my watch off and charge it, the better. Every watch in the Fenix 7-collection has solid upgrades to them. Most runners will feel a clear difference – particularly in GPS mode; a Fenix 7 has 72% more battery life Vs the Fenix 6.

UP-AHEAD Feature - Know What Lays In Wait For You

If you load up your run route before a workout or race, the Garmin Fenix 7X can show you that elements lay in waiting for you; thanks to the Up-Ahead feature. This feature will show you when you are due to turn, the location of the next water station on the trail route, the next hill \ and much more. The Up-Ahead feature can be very useful on long training runs or ultramarathons. You can preserve your energy before an uphill stint or open your legs on long downhill sections.

Stamina Feature

Many experienced runners or cyclists have “hit the wall” during their workouts and training sessions. With the new “Stamina” feature, Garmin provides an improved estimate of your energy levels to prevent you from using your energy too fast. The Fenix 7 takes your creatine metabolism, anaerobic metabolism, and aerobic metabolism into account to better analyse your total energy metabolism. You get a comprehensive insight into how much energy you have left and how long you can keep running at a certain speed.

Race Pace Predictor Trend For Runners

In many Garmin models, you can estimate how fast you will run a 5k, 10k, ½ marathon and marathon. The Predictor Trend on the new Garmin Fenix 7 will show how fast you are estimated to run 5k, 10k, a half marathon, or even a marathon. Consequently, you can check if your pace is improving, deteriorating or plateauing to evaluate the impact of your current and future workouts.

Multi-Continent Map & Ability To Directly Download

Garmin Fenix 7 has a pre-installed topographical map with optimised map details of European countries. Another new feature is downloading new maps directly onto your watch over-Fi. So, if you are going to the U.S., you can also get Golf and SkiView maps featuring country-wide ski trails. This feature adds versatility to your watch, making it ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who love to travel

Multi-Band GPS On The Sapphire Solar Model

Perhaps it gets a bit complicated now. Suppose you don’t want the technical explanation. In that case, all you should be aware of is that with the Multi-Band GPS turned on; you can get much better GPS accuracy than previously.

Usually, you can turn on the GPS. You can also turn on other satellite systems like Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS and QZSS. Using more sources will improve the GPS accuracy you will get. The traditional GPS usually transmits two lines; L1 and L2. L1 has been for private consumers (GPS-watches, GPS in cars, etc..), while the L2 exclusively have been used by the American Army. In 2009 the GPS launched a new line, L5, which is more accurate.

When you combine L1 and L5, you get a more accurate signal because the receiver in your watch always selects the best line. Galileo and BeiDou both have lines similar to L5. Therefore, when you combine everything, you get a more accurate and reliable system than previously.

Garmin Fenix 7 Vs Garmin Epix

Garmin Epix has the same features as Fenix 7, and many articles on the web talk about them interchangeably. The key difference between the Fenix 7 and Epix is the displays. Instead of having solar panels, Garmin Epix has an AMOLED display on the watch. What this means is you have a sharper than the Fenix 7. Which one to go for all depends on if you care or need the solar charging feature or not.
