Champions of compression socks and other gear claim a lot of benefits. It improves blood circulation and reduces lactic acid and muscle fatigue, resulting in enhanced performance during a run and faster recovery afterwards.
The recovery factor is backed up by academic research studies that showed that using compression equipment speeds up recovery, reducing muscles soreness and perceived fatigue. However, the assumed running performance gains of compression socks and compression gear has not 100% been scientifically proven.
We are not saying that your performance won’t benefit from wearing compression socks. As any ardent runner understands, the placebo effect of sporting gear that you feel help can affect how you run. Many runners, amateur and pro, swear by compression socks to run faster and decrease injury risk. If you watch the TV’s athletic competitions, you’ll see many international athletes wearing compression socks on the track and the road.
